Melbourne Exploration from Richmond to South Yarra

Ride on 29/5/2020

We had a very good turnout today with 24 riders led by Ross, Kevin and Penny.
We set off in a holiday mood with the perfect weather making for a fantastic ride. Thanks to Rodney for the Indigenous Notes.

The ride took us past the MCG and over the Barak Bridge before riding east to the Morrell Bridge before crossing the Yarra to go back to Llinlithgow Avenue. Next was the Shrine where two groups had coffee before heading back via Fawkner Park and South Yarra to the Morrell Bridge.

Kevin’s and Penny’s groups stopped at the granite boulder near Linlithgow Avenue for a reminder about the people buried there and their journey from the museum.

Kevin’s group stopped at The Oaks near South Yarra Station after enjoying the trees at Fawkner Park.

Ross’s group detoured to look at the fascinating pictures on display at the tunnel works down from The Shrine. Well worth a visit.

At the shrine Penny’s group followed Judy G.  to see the image of William Barak on the RMIT building at the other end of Swanston Street . They returned to the Royal Botanical Gardens where they wheeled bikes through the gardens past the rainforest and the lake to the bottom of Anderson Street. The gardens were beautiful with lots of interesting plants and flowers on display in the perfect autumn sunshine.
