Ride on 17 May 2019
On a hazy autumn day 18 enthusiasts assembled at Fed Square, successfully shared the road across Princes Bridge with motor traffic, and settled into a relaxed journey upstream beside the Yarra. The bike path underpasses which are now in place at each of the bridges across the river certainly make the way much smoother than it used to be.
When we were making our crossing at MacRobertson Bridge a runner passing through the peloton struck the rear wheel of one of our riders, throwing him onto the roadway. Thanks to the absence of cars, he suffered only minor injuries and was able to continue the ride. A close shave indeed.
All managed the hill at the Walmer Street bridge without undue effort and were rewarded with a long glide down to Gipps Street. People chose various routes for the final stage and regrouped for coffee in glorious sunshine at the Abbotsford convent. Thanks to everyone for their good fellowship on yet another most enjoyable OYB outing. Special thanks to Jonno for his conscientious sweeping.
